How to Transfer Your Domain from Namecheap to Cloudflare
Cloudflare Registrar sells domains at wholesale cost — no markup, ever. The trade-off: it’s built for people already using Cloudflare. Here’s the full process.
Before you start
- You need a Cloudflare account with your domain’s DNS already on Cloudflare (or be willing to move DNS there — it’s free and takes 10 minutes).
- Your domain must be older than 60 days and not transferred in the last 60 days (ICANN rules).
- Unlock at Namecheap first and grab your auth code — same as any transfer. See our Namecheap → Porkbun guide for the exact clicks if you need them.
Step 1: Add your domain to Cloudflare (if it isn’t)
- Log into Cloudflare → Add domain.
- Follow the nameserver change prompts. Cloudflare scans your existing DNS records automatically — review them before continuing.
- Wait for nameserver propagation (can be minutes or up to 24 hours).
Step 2: Start the transfer
- In Cloudflare: Domain Registration → Transfer Domains.
- Enter your domain name and the auth code from Namecheap.
- Pay the wholesale transfer fee (~$10 for .com) — one year of registration included.
Step 3: Approve at Namecheap
Namecheap emails you to confirm. Approve it to skip most of the 5-day ICANN wait.
Step 4: Verify
Your domain appears under Cloudflare’s Domain Registration within 5 days. DNS stays exactly as you configured it in Step 1 — nothing breaks.
Porkbun vs Cloudflare — which one?
- Pick Cloudflare if your DNS is already there (or you’re happy to move it). Wholesale pricing is unbeatable and you get one dashboard for DNS + domains.
- Pick Porkbun if you want a traditional registrar experience — a normal control panel, no DNS prerequisites, friendlier for non-technical users.
